Residing in the mountains east of Santa Margarita, Calfornia, we have a small herd of registered LaMancha Dairy Goats.
Purple-Sage-Farm began in 1994 with the purchase of my daughter's 4-H showmanship doe, White-Bear Sassy Rilla. Our daughters
grew up and moved out, but the LaManchas stayed.
We strive to breed healthy, productive animals that are competitive in the show ring. We have been successful
in meeting these goals by making use of Linear Appraisal and DHIR. We test annually for CAE, and have never had a positive
animal. Once again, we tested negative for CAE in 2006. Kids are removed from their dams at birth and fed heat-treated
colostrum and then pasteurized milk. We vaccinate with CDT and Bo-se and worm on a regular basis. Loose trace
minerals are available at all times to all our goats, as well as a trace mineral salt brick. We feed quality alfalfa,
forage hay, and the milkers receive Sweet Feed and rolled barley.
We have seen consistent improvement in the quality and production of our animals. This has been achieved through
selective breedings to animals from exceptional herds. Winterwood's, Altrece, Lucky*Star, and Tempo are some of the
herds whose bloodlines we have used.
